Obligation

Obligation serves as a measure of forces that compel a character to continue adventuring on a personal level. Work with a faction can come and go, but that has relatively little effect of where someone came from and what motivates them.

All characters begin with 5 Obligation under a model similar to the Edge of the Empire base rules. Players will be organized into groups of four for Obligation tables. At the start of each session, the GM will roll for Obligation. If your character is selected, their Obligation shall be triggered: their strain threshhold will be reduced for the remainder of the session and some complication from their backstory shall be invoked. If the player addresses the issue in this session the triggered Obligation shall be reduced.

Along with bonuses to XP and credits at character creation Obligation may be taken in order to obtain someone of setting significance. The following items are non-exhaustive examples:

5 Obligation: a vehicle worth a base price of 50,000 or less
10 Obligation: a vehicle worth 150,000 XP or less
10 Obligation: a personal busnness or homestead. This will be created along with the GM and can be allowed to handwave the use of equipment or offer bonuses. For example, a bar would would be expected to have free access to food and drink and might generate credits each session. A hunting store would offer reductions of item rarity. A mechanics shop would assume readily available tools and perhaps have decreased time investment on construction and repairs.

Morality

Morality shall be handled based on modified Force and Destiny rules. Players who are Force Sensitive will privately track their Morality, rolling 1d10 at the end of session and adjusting their Morality score based on the roll combined with Conflict assigned by the GM either through event conditions or in response to player actions.

Unlike in Rules as Written, the GM may increase a player's Morality based on actions of altruistic sacrifice. Players do not need to be passive in order to gain enlightenment with the Light.
